Ways to support Pride

Updated: Jun 30, 2021

We are nearing the end of Pride Month and to finish up our Pride blog feature, we thought we’d compile the most important information on how to support the LGBTQ+ community.

So, below are 4 ways in which you can support Pride!

Also, a reminder: it doesn’t have to be Pride month for you to support the community – you can do this at any time of the year.

1. Donate

There are some fantastic LGBTQ+ charities out there that support the community.

Whether you donate out of pocket (if you are in the position to do so) or if you host a fundraiser, every bit of support and spreading awareness is vital.

Even something as simple as a Facebook fundraiser can have a big impact!

Here are our top picks:

2. Display your pronouns on social media

Your bio can be used to a variety of things – to say who you are, where you live, what you like. And you can show that you are an ally by simply including your pronouns!

Do you prefer to be referenced to as She/Her, He/Him, They/Them, another pronoun or a mix? Simply add this to your bio!

Instagram even has this feature built in to make identifying your pronouns even easier.

3. Learn more and teach others

Educating yourself on the issues Pride represents is vital in being an ally! The more you learn, the more you know.

The charities we listed are also a great source of information for historical backgrounds, struggles and achievements.

And the more you know, the more you can spread the message to the ones close to you!

4. Participate in events

Finally, Pride events are still ongoing – there are lots of virtual events you can attend, both free and paid (profits of which typically go to charity).

Both family and adult only events are available – so why not get involved from home!

You can find these on Facebook Events or Eventbrite.

Alternatively, some Pride marches are still scheduled. For instance, London Pride is taking place in September so pencil it in and support the community after summer!

These are just a few ways in which you can support the LGBTQ+ community.

And remember, it doesn’t have to be Pride Month for you to be able to show your support - the LGBTQ+ community needs your support all year round.
